An Evening for Hospice - November 11, 2007
Making Memories Together
On November 11, 2007 more than 180 guests attended
“An Evening for Hospice –Making Memories Together”. The
gala evening took place at the Republican River Valley
Events Center. With the creative assistance of a
16-member committee, the Event Center, was transformed
back in time to help those attending remember years
past. Tables were decorated with trivia questions from
different decades. Props included mannequins dressed in
period costumes from WWI to polyester of the 1970’s. The
buffet of hors d’oeuvres was generously prepared by Matt
Sehnert and his staff.
Part
of the planning included contracting for live
entertainment. We were fortunate to book Karen
Taylor-Good, nationally known singer and songwriter from
Nashville, TN. Karen is best known for her song, “How
Can I Help You to Say Good bye.” Several years ago Karen
adopted Hospice services as her charity and performs for
Hospice fundraisers around the nation each year. We
learned about Karen through the Nebraska Hospice and
Palliative Care Partnership. Karen included a
performance in McCook as part of her 4-stop schedule in
Nebraska.
Karen’s
passion for Hospice came through in her emotional
messages and songs. And, as usual, the audience
responded. With the assistance of auctioneer, Dennis
Youngs and ring man, Cal Siegfried, the event brought a
record high of more than $39,000 in net proceeds. We
cannot thank the many sponsors, gifters and bidders
enough for making the evening successful.
In 2008 we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary
of “An Evening for Hospice”. In July the committee will
meet to plan a theme, refreshments and entertainment. We
are grateful for the persons who planned the first event
in 1998. This event has grown from their original
concept to the prestigious event it is today. Thank you.
